Sport Wellington is an
independent body for sport and physical activity and is committed to
empower the Wellington Region to be New Zealand's most successful
sporting and physically active community. Sport Wellington is supported
to achieve these outcomes through it's stakeholders - the 9 local
authorities that make up the region. Wellington City Council, Hutt City
Council, Upper Hutt City Council, Porirua City Council, Kapiti Coast
District Council, Masterton District Council, Carterton District
Council, South Wairarapa District Council and the Greater Wellington
Regional Council. Partner lead agencies and support agencies include
health, education, sport and community organisations.
Sport Wellington's Purpose Aims and Guiding Principles
Sport Wellington Strategic Direction - Supporting and developing the Wellington Region's sporting infrastructure while promoting and advocating increased physical activity form the core drivers of Sport Wellington's business strategy.
As one of 17 Regional Sports Trusts located throughout New Zealand, Sport Wellington has now completed 19 years of supporting the sport and physical recreation sector. A Charitable Trust, established in 1990, Sport Wellington has offices in Wellington, with the branch offices of Sport Wellington - Kapiti located at Waikanae and Sport Wellington - Wairarapa at Masterton.
Sport Wellington is governed by a board of eight
people and managed by a chief executive officer, three general
managers, with 31 (made up of full and part-time) staff. The
organisational direction is based on a three year strategic plan,
supported by an annual business plan.
