Beatrootz Say No to Tango Jonny and the Dreamboats
The Great WORKOUT|ZONE Sports Shoe Recycling Project
As a sponsor of the Pelorus Trust Round the Bays and New Balance Half Marathon 2010, it is a great opportunity to help the environment and clear out a few cupboards at the same time.
Sports shoes are made of refined plastics and can take a thousand years to break down if just added to a city's landfill. So we ask you to bring us your old sports shoes on the morning of the run (please tie them together to make a pair). SAVEMART will then sort the shoes and those deemed re-wearable will be sent to Papua New Guinea and those which are beyond hope will be sent to the NIKE-Reuse a Shoe programme where they are ground down and the plastics reused as sports surfaces.
Get behind this initiative and bring us your old, tired or worn out shoes either on the morning of the race, or you can also take (paired) shoes to Les Mill Extreme on Taranaki Street Wellington.
We are hoping to fill bins with thousands of unwanted pairs of shoes - do your bit for the environment on Sunday 21st February 2010.
