Run and Become is a programme that supports our tamariki and their whānau to participate in Southern Cross Round the Bays 2024. Piloted in 2019, the team at Nuku Ora initiated Run and Become to enable more young people to get active and inspired at Wellington's most iconic community, fun run/walk.

The programme works with schools and the wider community in the lead-up to and on the day of the event, receiving a free entry for themselves and one guardian into the 5.5km Fun Run/Walk. Additional benefits of the programme include:
 

• Free transport to the event

• Pre and post-event kai

• A Run and Become T-shirt, finishers certificate and event medal

• Healthy lifestyle and training guidance from qualified staff at Nuku Ora​

Since the pilot, the programme has developed into an annual addition to the wider Wellington Round the Bays event. In 2020/21 the programme had 713 tamariki involved from across the wider Wellington region; from Wairarapa to Miramar, Porirua and the Hutt Valley. We are excited to have Southern Cross as the supporting sponsor for the Run and Become programme for 2024.
